What is a Clearing Firm?
A clearing firm (or custodian) provides trade execution, clearing, custody, and other related services for its customers’ brokerage accounts.
National Financial Services LLC (NFS)
Our clearing firm, National Financial Services LLC, a Fidelity Investment Company, is a nationally recognized clearing firm, servicing more than 200 independent broker/dealers, banks, and insurance company correspondents. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fidelity Investments. NFS is a member of the NYSE, as well as many of the regional exchanges. In June 1996, NFS began making markets in a small number of Nasdaq- and OTC-listed stocks.
NFS is also a member of the Securities Insurance Protection Corporation (SIPC). SIPC covers brokerage accounts for loss if a financial institution goes out of business. Accounts are protected up to $500,000 in securities and $100,000 in cash. NFS purchases additional coverage for total account net equity protection.
