Giving Back

As Arthur Ashe once said, "From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life."  At Heritage we find that giving is one of the cornerstones of our society and a necessity for many in the fulfillment of life. All of our advisors are proudly involved in several community projects and organizations. Some of our favorite include the following:

Prevention 1st

As co-founder and current board member, Stewart Moscov has remained deeply involved for more than 10 years with Rochester-based Prevention 1st. Unintentional injuries are the number one cause of death for Americans from ages 1 to 44. Yet, they are largely preventable. Prevention 1st, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 2006 to provide effective, evaluated, research-based training and materials to promote safer behavior and to prevent and reduce unintentional injuries. Projects provide injury prevention training, education and/or materials to vulnerable populations. These populations at higher risk for injury include children, families in low-income communities, individuals with developmental disabilities, and older adults.

As a member of the Federation's Advisory Board for more than 20 years, Stewart provides ongoing support by assisting with annual speaking engagements, recruiting  for tax meetings and conducts seminars. The Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester serves to enrich the quality of life for Jews in Rochester, Israel, and around the world. The Federation meets this goal through financial resource development, planning, education, community relations, and volunteer recruitment and training. The Federation convenes agencies, synagogues and organizations to address issues of common concern.

Josh Moscov is a founding member of the Verona Street Animal Society (VSAS) and an original member of the Board of Directors in 2005. Josh carried out Board leadership responsibilities until the end of his term in 2016. Josh now acts in an advisory role to the VSAS and continues to support its mission of providing the resources necessary to enable Rochester Animal Services to more effectively serve the public’s animal care and control, pet sterilization, and pet adoption interests and, in cooperation with the City of Rochester, to support the mission of Rochester Animal Services.

BikeMS16_Facebook_Prof-Img-180x180.v13In 2014, Steve formed The Kane Gang to help raise money and awareness about Multiple Sclerosis. The support the team has been able to achieve has been beyond his expectations. Every year, there are many riders, from beginners to veterans, all coming together for an amazing cause. The Kane Gang looks to welcome any riders every year to join the team and ride with them as they continue to build on the fund-raising foundation The Kane Gang has strived for during the past three years of participating in BikeMS! To date, Bike MS cyclists, volunteers, and donors have raised more than $1 billion so people affected by MS can live their best lives as we strive to stop MS in its tracks, restore what's been lost, and end MS forever.
